Importing docs from another plugin
Move existing documentation into PinkDocs from another docs plugin, Markdown files or another platform. Choose the method that matches where your docs live now.
| Your docs are in… | Best method |
|---|---|
| Markdown files, a Git repo, Notion or Google Docs | Import with an AI tool through MCP |
| Another WordPress docs plugin | WordPress export and import, then convert |
| A few pages anywhere | Copy and paste into the block editor |
Plan the import
List your docs
List every doc you want to move, with its current category.
Map categories
Decide which PinkDocs category each old category maps to. Create the categories in PinkDocs → Categories.
Note old URLs
Record each doc's current URL so you can set up redirects later.
Import with an AI tool through MCP
The fastest way to import Markdown or content from other tools is to connect PinkDocs to Claude or another AI tool and ask it to create the docs. It converts your content to PinkDocs blocks as it goes.
Connect PinkDocs
Follow Connecting PinkDocs to Claude and other AI tools. Use Drafts mode.
Share your content
Upload your Markdown files or paste your content into the chat.
Ask for the import
Ask the AI to create each doc in the right category, for example:
Review and publish
Check each draft in PinkDocs → Docs and publish when ready.
Import from another WordPress docs plugin
Export your docs
Go to Tools → Export, choose your old plugin's docs post type and download the export file.
Copy content into PinkDocs
Create a new PinkDocs doc for each old doc and paste the content into the block editor, or share the export with an AI tool connected through MCP and ask it to recreate the docs.

Replace old blocks and shortcodes
Replace the old plugin's shortcodes and blocks with PinkDocs blocks, such as Alert, Steps and FAQ.
After importing
Set up redirects
Use a redirect plugin to send each old URL to its new PinkDocs URL with a 301 redirect.
Check images and links
Open each doc and check that images display and internal links point to the new URLs.
Set the order
Set each doc's Order so categories read logically.
Deactivate the old plugin
Once everything works, deactivate the old docs plugin.
Common questions
Images already in your WordPress media library keep working. Images hosted elsewhere need to be uploaded to your media library.
Not if you set up 301 redirects from every old URL to its new one.
