Using tags
Tags are keywords you add to docs to connect related content across categories. Use them alongside categories to help readers and search find docs about the same topic.
Tags or categories?
| Categories | Tags | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | The main structure of your help centre | Extra keywords that cross categories |
| Per doc | Usually one | Several |
| Shown in | Sidebar, homepage, breadcrumbs | Doc page, tag pages and search filters |
| Example | Customise | dark-mode, css, branding |
Add tags to a doc
Open the doc
Open the doc in the editor.
Add your tags
In the Settings sidebar, open Tags, type a tag and press Enter. Add as many as you need.

Update the doc
Click Update. The tags appear on the doc page and become searchable.
How readers use tags
- On doc pages, readers click a tag to see every doc with that tag.
- In search, readers filter results by tag to narrow them down.

Write good tags
- Use lowercase and hyphens, such as
custom-css. - Keep a short, consistent list. Reuse existing tags instead of creating near-duplicates such as
cssandCSS-styling. - Tag features, integrations and problems readers search for, such as
woocommerceor404-error.
Manage tags
Go to PinkDocs → Tags to rename, merge or delete tags across all docs.
Common questions
Tags help the AI assistant find related docs, but the content of your docs matters most.
The tag is removed from every doc. The docs themselves aren't affected.
