Creating categories
Categories group related docs by topic, so readers can browse your help centre and find what they need without searching. Each category belongs to a knowledge base and can have its own description.
Create a category
Open Categories
In your WordPress admin, go to PinkDocs → Categories.

Name the category
Enter a Name, for example "Get Started", and choose the Knowledge base the category belongs to.
Choose a parent (optional)
To make it a subcategory, choose a Parent category. Leave it empty for a top-level category.
Add a description
Write a short Description that tells readers what they'll find inside.
Save the category
Click Add New Category.

Write useful category descriptions
Category descriptions appear on your help centre homepage and category pages. A good description is one sentence that names the tasks covered in that category.
| ❌ Vague | ✅ Clear |

| Information about settings. | Change layouts, colours, fonts, URLs and templates. |
| Getting started stuff. | Install PinkDocs, create your first knowledge base and publish your first doc. |
Plan your categories
- Start with 4–7 categories. Too many makes your homepage hard to scan.
- Name categories after what readers want to do, not after your internal team names.
- Put a Get Started category first so new users know where to begin.
- Use subcategories sparingly. One level of nesting is usually enough.
Edit or delete a category
On the PinkDocs → Categories screen, hover over a category and click Edit to change its name, description or parent, or Delete to remove it.
